Rumor: Katee Sackhoff Researching Typhoid Mary Role For A Daredevil Reboot Or Deadpool Movie?
There's been some talk of late that a reboot of the Daredevil franchise could be on the cards. The latest, and potentially greatest, piece of evidence could come from the blog of LA Comic Shop Golden Apple. Here's an excerpt from one of their most recent posts, about the day Katee Sackhoff came to visit:
So we got a little visit in our comic shop last week by Katee Sackhoff, also known as Starbuck for her role on BSG. She proceeded to grab all the Typhoid Mary comics we had and has hopes to get a part for a Marvel movie....
Typhoid Mary being one of the key characters in the Daredevil series, it would seem quite likely that the film in question is this rumoured reboot. Of course, she also appeared in some key Deadpool storylines... so... perhaps... maybe...
The Elektra spin-off film had a Typhoid Mary character, as played by Natassia Malthe, but she was not strictly accurate to the comic version. More lately, Typhoid Mary has appeared in the guise of Mutant Zero in an Avengers mini series... but I think the casting for the Avengers project is probably still someway down the line.
I'm expecting this potential casting is actually for the Deadpool film. I wouldn't be surprised to see her set up as a love interest, or even love interest-come-nemesis. Should Fox cause any rights issues with the Typhoid Mary moniker there's an easy out, with Marvel using the Mutant Zero handle. I wouldn't expect problems though – like Wolverine, I'd imagine any Deadpool picture would ultimately be distributed by Fox.
In the comics, Typhoid Mary suffers from DID or Disassociative Identity Disorder. Playing her various personalities or 'alters' could definitely be a challenge for Ms. Sackhoff. In her Deadpool storyline, she found herself incarcerated in an asylum from where one of her alters hired Deadpool to spring her while another independently hires him to kill her. Their relationship (relationships?) subsequent to this lead Deadpool to one of those big self-questioning moments that comic book heroes so often face as he tries to stop her murder spree and rehabilitate her and she challenges his morality. A possible plot line for the movie? Yeah, maybe. And more likely than a Daredevil reboot right now, I'm prepared to bet.
