Cool Stuff: Star Wars Mighty Muggs

While on Holiday vacation back home in Boston I discovered this cool new line of Star Wars Urban vinyl collectible figures called Mighty Muggs. Usually the word vinyl means a toy is no longer a toy, and instead functions as art. This somehow raises the price value of a figure from the expect $10 or $20 to around $100 bucks. And while Urban vinyl collectible figures are the new hip trend, I can't convince myself to spend so much on a little toy figure. But much to my surprise, Toys R' Us was only charging ten bucks. A very unexpected price from Lucas and Hasbro.

I bought the Darth Vader figure within seconds of this discovery. But when I got home (to San Francisco) and set him up on my bookshelf, I realized that he was lonely. I quickly dashed to the interwebs to order him up some new friends. Turns out the first wave of the figures features Vader, Chewbacca, Boba Fett, Han Solo. Darth Maul, and a Storm Trooper. And while I may write this Cool Stuff column on a daily basis, it somehow never occurred to me to feature the Mighty Muggs. That is until my friend Sam e-mailed me asking if I had seen these things. So thanks to Sam, you're now hearing about these very cool cheap collectable toys. The packaging even says that they're "Made with 100% Recycled Awsome". I agree.

I was able to find the Mighty Muggs online for $12.99 a pop on StarWarsShop.com. I also discovered that a second series of Mighty Mugs is due out sometime this month. Figures include: C-3PO, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, and Luke Skywalker. Honestly, the human figures aren't as cool as the costumed, which makes series 2 almost worthless to me (although, I'm still considering buying C3-PO...). Check out the photos of the new series below.
