Nolan To Write Steven Spielberg's Interstellar

Last Summer Steven Spielberg had an idea for a movie that would follow a group of explorers who travel through a worm hole and into another dimension. The idea is now moving forward with screenwriter Memento screenwriter Jonah Nolan (yes, Chris Nolan's brother) penning the script. Oscar nominated Nolan's other scripts include The Prestige and the 2008 Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight.

The last time Spielberg produced a movie that involved time travel was in 1984, and that film is my favorite movie of all time (Back to the Future). Nolan's complex writing style might be the perfect fit for this project.

The idea for Interstellar derived from a treatment by Caltech physicist Kip S. Thorne, an expert on relativity known for his prolific contributions in the field of gravitation physics and astrophysics. Thorne's controversial theory claims that wormholes exist and could be used as portals for time travel. Thorne is the first person conducting scientific research on whether the laws of physics permit space and time to be multiply connected.

Spielberg plans on directing the project, but not any time soon. The director is currently prepping Indiana Jones 4, and is expected to follow with his long in development Abraham Lincoln project, with Liam Neeson as the lead.

Expect Interstellar in 2009 or 2010 at earliest.
