2014 Razzie Nominations Short List Blends Obvious And Well-Regarded Choices

When you're celebrating the worst of something, it's impossible to get it right. Just like everyone's favorite movies are subjective, so are the bad, but then there's a whole other level missing. You go out to movies hoping for them to be good. Very few people seek out the really bad movies – at least not on initial release. So unless you see every single movie that comes out in a year, really, you're just picking the worse movies you saw, not the worst movies period. Or even worse, the movies someone thinks are bad without watching them.

That's just one of a hundred reasons The Razzies are so useless. Sure it's funny in theory to crown the worst movies of the year, but the process by which they choose their short list of nominees is a total mystery. For example this year, Noah, a movie with a fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is a possible nominee. If this was being serious, shouldn't something like that be automatically be crossed off? Do they really hate a movie like The Interview or is it just included because it's popular at the moment? Is that the same reason why seemingly every single possible actor mentioned is incredibly famous? There are a ton of questions raised, but very few answered, by the 2014 Razzie nominations short list which you can see below.

Here's the full 2014 Razzie nominations short list via their website. Feel free to discuss your thoughts about it below.

Look – it's hard to deny that a lot of those movies are really bad. The ones that I actually saw on the list – Transcendence, A Million Ways To Die In The West, Ninja Turtles, Transformers: Age of Extinction, are all pretty bad. Others, like The Expendables III, Noah or The Interview, I actually like. That doesn't make them good, but not the worst of the year. Still, I'm probably taking this way too seriously not to mention these aren't even the final 2014 Razzie nominations anywhere. It's just the short list. But there are definitely lots of very bad movies that aren't mentioned here, probably because they just aren't as funny to nominate.

Any thoughts on this list?
