Wolverine 3 will be the final hurrah for X-Men star Hugh Jackman, who’s been playing the mutant superhero since 2000. But while Wolverine 3 marks an end for Jackman’s version of the character, it’ll be a brand-new beginning for another mutant. Rumor has it Wolverine 3 will mark the big-screen debut of X-23, a popular comic book character who’s got more than a few things in common with the cantankerous Canadian himself. Read More »

Deadpool‘s $132 million opening would have been impressive under any circumstances, but it was especially noteworthy given the film’s R rating. The conventional wisdom has been that PG-13 is the way to go if you want to make lots of money, because an R rating, by its very nature, excludes a sizable chunk of the potential audience. But not only did the R rating not hurt Deadpool, it seemed to actually help. It signaled to moviegoers that this wasn’t going to be just another bland, safe comic book adaptation, and they turned out in droves to see what it would be.
Naturally, Hollywood has taken notice. For the past several days, the question has been whether Deadpool could spark a whole new wave of R-rated superhero movies. And while it’s too early to tell, it seems like 20th Century Fox, at least, is ready to take the plunge again. Rumor has it the studio is considering an R rating for the upcoming Wolverine movie, to be directed by James Mangold and star Hugh Jackman. Read More »

While Fox hasn’t officially confirmed anything, it’s widely believed that the next Wolverine movie will be based on the Old Man Logan comic book arc written by Mark Millar. Which, of course, raises its own set of questions. Namely, what are they going to do about the fact that most of the characters in it aren’t owned by 20th Century Fox?
Millar, who serves as a creative consultant for Fox, isn’t worried. In an interview, he explains how the Old Man Logan storyline could work on the big screen, without using Marvel Cinematic Universe characters like Hawkeye and the Hulk. Read the Mark Millar Old Man Logan comments after the jump. Read More »
So far the X-Men spin-off movies that focus on Wolverine have been nowhere near as good as the regular X-Men franchise. Without much dissension, X-Men Origins: Wolverine is regarded abysmal. And while The Wolverine was a huge step up, it still felt like it was missing something.
But since Wolverine 3 is going to be the last time Hugh Jackman puts on the claws, he wants to make sure it’s the movie fans have been waiting for. In a recent interview, Jackman talked about Wolverine 3 development, opening up a bit about how Professor X (Patrick Stewart) factors in, and also reaffirming his dedication to a quality story, so much that he’s not yet guaranteeing that the movie will happen just yet.
