Over a year and a half ago, the world got its first glimpse at a shockingly emaciated Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who’d dropped nearly 60 pounds to play the lead role in a project called All Things Fall Apart. (Originally called just Things Fall Apart.) When the finished feature finally comes to DVD and Blu-ray next month, we’ll finally get to see what all the trouble was for.
Directed by Mario Van Peebles from a screenplay by Jackson and Brian A. Miller, the drama stars Jackson as a college football player who’s on the verge of joining the NFL when he’s sticken with cancer. We got an early peek at the film in the form of a sales trailer that hit around its little-noticed Miami Film Festival premiere last spring, but now that Image Entertainment is on board we finally have an official trailer as well. Take a look after the jump.

Last year Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson took the low road to being taken seriously as an actor. No, not acting! That would be taking the high road. He lost a hell of a lot of weight and shaved his head to play a college football player stricken by cancer. The movie is Things Fall Apart, directed by and c0-starring Mario Van Peebles. Mario Van Peebles is currently directing Curtis Jackson in Things Fall Apart and, based on Jackson’s past thespian efforts, that’s not terribly exciting. But now Ray Liotta is joining the cast, so that’s a positive turn. Jackson is playing “a star football running back…who faces a personal tragedy as well as his own mortality while in his senior year in college.” Liotta will now play his doctor, which will make a nice change from playing intimidating cops and the like, which Liotta gets all too often. The Farrelly Brothers start shooting their new film Hall Pass in Atlanta this week, and the cast just got an injection of additional talent. Stephen Merchant and J.B. Smoove will join Owen Wilson, Jenna Fischer and Jason Sudeikis in the film about two husbands (Wilson and Sudeikis) who are given a free pass to have extra-marital adventures for a week. Still don’t get why the title ‘Hall Pass’ applies, but no matter; Merchant and Smoove are great additions. [THR]
