That’s exactly what the forthcoming comic book Star Wars: Shattered Empire will set out to answer as one of many new stories coming this fall as part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens publishing program. The comic book picks up immediately after the Battle of Endor, showing that the destruction of the second Death Star wasn’t exactly an easy happy ending, and it certainly wasn’t the absolute end of the Empire either.

What happened in the thirty years between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens? In March, Disney announced they would release a series of books called Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which would fill in that gap through a mix of novels, comics, children’s books and young adult stories (all considered official Star Wars canon).
One of the 20 books which will hit store shelves in December 2015 is a prequel comic book called Star Wars: Shattered Empire. We now have our first official synopsis for Star Wars: Shattered Empire which gives us our first peek at the events which happened after Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and before JJ Abrams’ Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Among the 20 titles that will consist of the newly announced Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, one that stood out was a prequel comic book. It would reportedly be told from the perspective of C-3PO and take place immediately after the events of Return of the Jedi. Well, that comic now has a title, release window and first image.
