J.K. Rowling is coming to HBO. The network has debuted the new trailer for The Casual Vacancy, a three-part miniseries based on Rowling’s first post-Harry Potter novel.
Rory Kinnear plays Barry Fairbrother, a parish councillor in the English suburb of Pagford. His unexpected death throws the seemingly idyllic town into turmoil, as various factions compete to replace him in the government. Michael Gambon plays council leader Howard Mollison. Dumbledore was always a supporting character in the Harry Potter movies, but the guy who played him will get to take center stage in the next J.K. Rowling adaptation. Michael Gambon is set to lead HBO/BBC’s The Casual Vacancy, a miniseries adaptation of Rowling’s first “adult” novel.

J.K. Rowling and Time Warner have a pretty good relationship. Together, they helped make one of the most successful and impressively coherent film franchises in history with Harry Potter. So it’s of little surprise Rowling turned in their direction when looking for a place to air her follow up novel, The Casual Vacancy, as a miniseries.
