Grab your candlestick and meet me in the Conservatory, because I have something to tell you: there’s a Clue animated series on the way. There aren’t many specifics at the moment, but c’mon – it’s Clue. You know the drill. A bunch of colorful characters gathers in some sort of mansion, someone gets killed, and everyone is a suspect. Of course, how do you adapt that into a TV show? And an animated show at that? Is this a kids cartoon we’re talking, or a more adult-driven show? I mean, the game is about murder, after all. That’s not exactly kid-friendly.

It’s been two years since we heard Ryan Reynolds was producing a new adaptation of the classic murder mystery board game Clue from Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Since then, Jason Bateman boarded the project as director, but unfortunately, his commitment to the Netflix series Ozark will keep him from following through. Now the project set up at the newly branded 20th Century Studios has brought on a new filmmaker from Disney’s neck of the woods: The Muppets director James Bobin. Read More »

Early last year, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds threatened to remake the beloved murder mystery adaptation Clue, which is hands down the best board game movie ever made. (Not that it has much competition in that department, but it’s also just a great movie – period.) Updates about the new version have been relatively scarce since then, but it seems like the project is moving forward because it has now found a director in Jason Bateman, who just won an Emmy this past Sunday night for his directing work on season 2 of his Netflix series Ozark.
Bateman also reportedly plans to star in the Clue remake alongside Reynolds, so there’s one more potential suspect (or maybe victim?) in the mix.

Are you ready for an R-rated Clue movie? I sure hope so, because writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who are developing a new Clue film with Ryan Reynolds, say that just might happen.

It was Ryan Reynolds, in the observatory, with the candlestick. That’s just one of several possible endings you might see in the new Clue remake.
The Deadpool star has signed a big three-year first look deal with 20th Century Fox, and the first film he’s set his sights on is a new take on Clue, the classic murder mystery board game that was previously adapted into a comedy in 1985.
Clue is heading out of the mansion and onto the stage. A new play is in the works from Jonathan Lynn, who co-wrote and directed the 1985 movie based on the Hasbro board game. The plan is for Clue to debut next year in Pennsylvania and then embark on a national tour. Read More »

As someone who completely wore out his VHS copy of Clue through constant rewatching over many years, I’ll never not be delighted by the strong cult following Jonathan Lynn’s 1985 comedy has developed over the years. Here’s a film that was The LEGO Movie decades before The LEGO Movie existed – a bad idea executed to such perfection that it feels like a warning to every imitator. Don’t even try. We made this cynical idea, this film adaption of a popular toy brand, sing. It would be all downhill from here.
So my initial response to the news that 20th Century Fox is developing a new Clue movie is to raise an eyebrow and cross my arms and make a distinct “Hurm” because I have a hard time imagining this ending well.

This year marks the anniversary of several movies, including the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future, the 40th anniversary of Jaws and the 25th anniversary of Gremlins 2: The New Batch. But there’s another film that may not be quite as celebrated, but deserves to be honored for its 30th anniversary this year: the murder mystery comedy Clue.
Based on the classic board game of the same name, the film brings to life the strange and perplexing murder mystery that keeps getting worse as the stormy night carries on. If there’s one piece of evidence to show that adapting a board game into a movie can work, it’s Clue. And Gallery 1988 is paying tribute to the movie with a collection of fantastic, original artwork. Check out the Gallery 1988 Clue artwork after the jump! Read More »
LOL: How Toys Get Made Into Movies: “Great Story & Great Characters” Required (Except When Not), Says Hasbro

Have you ever wondered how the Transformers movies came to be? Or how about the box office failure Battleship, the two G.I. Joe movies, or the upcoming Jem and the Holograms film adaptation? All of these films started as toys owned by the Hasbro toy company. Business Insider talked with Hasbro Chief Marketing Officer John Frascotti to find out how these toys become movies and I think some of the details are fascinating and humorous. Find out how toys get made into movies, after the jump.
