Mondo Will Release The 'Kubo And The Two Strings' Soundtrack On Vinyl

Sadly, Laika's Kubo and the Two Strings came in fourth place at the box office this past weekend. It's the Portland-based company's lowest-grossing opening weekend to date, which is a shame. The beautiful, elegant and often moving stop-motion / CG hybrid may not have immediately caught on with moviegoers, but the film already has its fans, and some of those fans may want to get their hands on the Kubo and the Two Strings soundtrack on Vinyl. Thanks to Mondotees, they'll soon be able to do so.

Below, learn more about the Kubo and the Two Strings vinyl release.

Mondotees last put out Kubo and the Two Strings composer Dario Marianelli's The Boxtrolls score, in addition to Loch Lomond's songs from the film, including their lovely cover song of "Little Boxes" heard during the end credits. The song played during Kubo and the Two Strings' closing credits — Regina Spektor's soulful cover of George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" — is a part of Mondo's 2XLP set. Marianelli's Kubo and the Two Strings score will be available to purchase on vinyl this Wednesday.

Here's the press release Mondo sent out, including the price ($30) and credits:

kubo and the two strings vinyl

Kubo And The Two Strings – Original Soundtrack 2XLP (PRE-ORDER). Composed by Dario Marianelli. Featuring song performed by Regina Spektor. Artwork by César Moreno. Pressed on 2X 180 Gram Colored Vinyl (Disc One: Sun Colored, Disc Two: Moon Colored).

Mondo is proud to present the soundtrack to Laika's fourth animated feature, Kubo and the Two Strings. Composed by Dario Marianelli (The Boxtrolls), and featuring an incredible cover of George Harrison's classic "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by the inimitable Regina Spektor.

Kubo continues the masterful legacy of Laika Animation Studio's filmography: incredible visuals and craft, and equally powerful soundtracks. The film is Dario's second time composing for the studio, this time dabbling in Japanese instrumentation to bring our titular hero's journey to life.

Kubo and the Two Strings isn't the only LAIKA title Mondo has got covered this month. They're also selling a re-pressing of Bruno Coulais' Coraline score with new packaging and disc color. The soundtrack also includes They Might Be Giants' "Our Father Song" ("Making up a song about Corrrrraline!").

Here's the new cover and specs:

Coraline vinyl

Coraline – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2XLP. Music by Bruno Coulais. Featuring song performed by They Might Be Giants. Artwork by Michael DePippo. Pressed on 2x180 Gram Purple & Blue Swirl Colored Vinyl.

Mondo is proud to reissue the soundtrack to Laika's 2009 feature length debut, the stop-motion animated masterpiece Coraline.

The soundtrack to Coraline is as haunting as it is whimsical. With the help Budapest Orchestra and Choir behind him, composer Bruno Coulais captures the dark child-like imagination of the titular protagonist with menace and aplomb.

You're able to purchase all of the soundtracks from Laika's films at Mondo's official website. The company released Jon Brion's ParaNorman score on vinyl, and any fan of that movie and Jon Brion should own it. It's one of the four distinct, evocative scores from Laika's filmography.

Kubo and the Two Strings is now in theaters.
