'American Horror Story' Season Six Teaser: Is This Another One Of FX's Phony Teasers?

American Horror Story returns for its sixth season this fall on FX. The network and the series' creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk haven't revealed yet the upcoming season's characters, setting, or theme. Of course, you would figure the marketing would give all off that information away, but so far that's not the case. Many different trailers were made for season six of American Horror Story, teasing different genres and places, just to throw fans off.

Below, watch the latest American Horror Story season teaser.

The upcoming season of the horror series stars Sarah PaulsonEvan PetersFinn Wittrock, Wes Bentley, Angela Bassett, Denis O'Hare, Kathy Bates, Matt Bomer, and last year's addition to the cast of regulars, Lady Gaga. Some recent set photos suggested they're starring in a season that deals with the mystery of the Roanoke Colony. In 1590, 117 people vanished from a colony in North Carolina, but whether that incident is a major part of season six is unconfirmed.

Here's another potentially misleading American Horror Story season six teaser trailer, titled "The Harvest":

We'll see if this is another one of the fake trailers soon. Only one of the teasers they shot is representative of the new season. FX CEO John Landgraf recently explained during a panel at the Television Critics Association why they're keeping the theme of season six a secret:

We decided, Ryan and I and Stephanie Gibbons, our massively talented head of marketing, that it would just be really fun this year. Every year we've laid out the themes and new genre. We thought it'd be really fun to keep it a mystery, so we are. The scripts have my name in place across them. There's only one script that comes into the company. Everything's blacked out that might give away [anything].

As for whether season six is close to the end of American Horror Story, that doesn't sound like the case:

We haven't talked about an endgame for American Horror Story. All good things must come to an end but so far, as long as Ryan keeps coming up with new ideas, as long as the audience wants to see it, that's the genius of this anthological series of miniseries ideas. It's only the limits of your stories and imaginations that ends the show. Only time will tell.

Landgraf also said season six is set during two time periods, but primarily takes place in the present. There's been some speculation season six will, in some way, tie all of the previous seasons — Coven, Asylum, and Freak Show, to name a few — together. We'll have to wait and see if that's the case.

American Horror Story returns on September 14th .
