More Force Awakens Questions Answered: The Island In Rey's Dreams

Okay, so we might be hitting the bottom of the barrel in terms of Star Wars: The Force Awakens unanswered questions at this point, but this was something I had been curious about since the first screening of the movie: Was the island that Rey dreams about the same island that we see at the end of the film? Find out more about the island in Rey's dreams, after the jump.

During Kylo Ren's interrogation of Daisy Ridley's Rey on Starkiller base, he looks into her mind and says:

"You're so lonely... so afraid to leave... At night, desperate to sleep... you imagine an ocean. I see it — I see the island..."

Rey's StoryAt the end of Force Awakens, Rey travels to Ahch-To, the island where master Jedi Luke Skywalker has remained in exile. Could this be the same island that Rey has been dreaming about? And if so, why would Rey know about this island, which is believed to be the location of the first Jedi temple? We don't know the answers to all of those questions but a new Disney LucasFilm Press young readers book called Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Rey's Story clears up part of this question.

The book contains the following passage:

"Rey," Leia began, "may the Force be with you." Those words were still echoing in Rey's head as she flew the Falcon high above Ahch-To. Rocky islands blanketed with beautiful green trees jutted from the water that covered the planet. Rey recognized the landscape from her dreams. She had imagined the place thousands of times without realizing it was waiting for her.

So this new book, which yes is considered official Star Wars canon, confirms the island from Rey's dreams and the island that she finds Luke Skywalker on at the end of the film are one and the same. But what does this mean? Why has she been imagining this island? Had she been there before? Is this a suppressed memory from when she was left abandoned on Jakku? Did the Force try to lead her there? Or was Luke Skywalker trying to call out to her? The answers to those questions will have to wait until Rian Johnson's Star Wars Episode VIII.
