What Are The Most Pirated Movies Of 2015?

Generally speaking, studios, filmmakers, and stars are happy to see their films land on awards shortlists or critics' top 10s. But then there are the lists they'd probably rather not be on, like this one of the most pirated movies of 2015.

To be sure, most of these movies did just fine even without the pirates' box-office dollars. This year's #2, Furious 7, was a favorite of pirates basically from the moment it opened, and it still managed to set records. (Records which were later broken by Jurassic World and then Star Wars, but never mind that.) Still, it's gotta be annoying to think of all the money they didn't make because some people didn't feel like paying. Especially since a couple of these titles could've used that extra boost. Find out what the most pirated movies of 2015 are after the jump.

The Most Pirated Movies of 2015

It's worth keeping in mind that these rankings are based on total downloads, which means films that opened earlier have had more time to rack up their counts. Fall and winter releases like Star Wars or Hunger Games might end up with bigger numbers than some of these movies when all is said and done, but since they've only been out a short time they have fewer total downloads at this point. Indeed, the most recent 2015 movie is Minions at #13, while the #1 slot is occupied by a 2014 release.

Because pirates are people too, they went for many of the same films that everyone else did this year. Box office smashes like Jurassic World and Avengers: Age of Ultron are all among the top 10 most pirated titles of the year. But coming in at #11 is Focus, which only earned $159 million worldwide this year — not too shabby for a film that cost $50 million to make, but small potatoes compared to the billion-dollar hits mentioned above. Apparently pirates love Will Smith, just not enough to fork over the cash to watch his movies through legitimate means.
