'Jurassic World:' Let's Analyze The Latest Trailer With Over 70 Screengrabs
Anyone who complained the first few Jurassic World trailers didn't show enough will be pleasantly surprised by the latest one. The new trailer reveals several new action sequences as well the official full-screen reveal of the Indominus Rex, called the D-Rex. There are also many new shots of the Pteranodons, Velociraptors and a ton of homages to the original movie. Plus, one of the money shots seen in earlier trailers has been flipped on its head here in this final version.
Below, let's do a Jurassic World trailer breakdown with over 70 screenshots.
The trailer starts with the new version of the raptor pen. We saw one in the first Jurassic Park that obviously didn't work. Now that they've borrowed the UFC's octagon structure, we'll assume it's better off.
We've already seen this shot. It's Chris Pratt's character, Owen Grady, calming a pack of Velociraptors. "It's not about control," he says.
"It's a relationship based on respect." However, you can see in this show that Owen is noticeably scared by these beasts.
Owen explains the raptors to Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard). There's obvious sexual tension here, as these two have dated in the past. This is the scene that was previously released.
"These animals are thinking, 'I've got to eat.'" The camera follows a pack of raptors from behind. I don't think the camera has ever been so intimate with these dinosaurs.
"'I've got to hunt.'"
Jurassic World, which is being released by Universal, is the first in the series to be a Legendary Pictures film.
Jurassic World is officially open and functioning. You see a few brand name stores on the right like Columbia and Brookstone. Corporate America has bought into John Hammond's idea.
For example, a problem of the first park has been solved. A goat is once again being used to lure a dinosaur out, but now the people are hidden in a large log instead of in neon SUVs. You scan see their cameras are out and pointing to their right. Could it be...?
Yup, it is. It's the T-Rex. Everyone takes photos as Zach and Gray (Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins) jump up to see from behind the crowd.
Zach and Gray sit in the middle of the crowd and enjoy something incredible. Notice lots of different Jurassic World souvenir t-shirts, cameras, sunglasses. This is a big tourist event. "Every time we've unveiled a new attraction, attendance has spiked," Claire says.
Yet another group of people take out their cameras to watch a dinosaus. Here it's the Mosasaurus, which we've seen in other trailers and posters. He's slowly stalking some food...
...and eats it in a single glup
"That was awesome," says Zach. They're enjoying this. They're also wet, probably from the previous shot of them outside.
A helicopter flies onto the island in a shot that's almost exactly from the Steven Spielberg original. You can even see the InGen logo on the site.
"Corporate felt genetic modification would up the wow factor," Claire continues. Is this a spine they are building?
Notice that all these eggs in the genetic lab are different sizes and shapes.
"They're dinosaurs, wow, enough," says Owen to Claire. We see Zach and Gray ride the Gyrosphere, which has been in other trailers but we'll see more of in a second. Notice they are in a lush, green area surrounded by three herbivores: The Brontosaurus, Triceratops and Stegosaurus.
A tease of the aforementioned genetically modified dinosaur the Indominus Rex, called the D-Rex.
"She was designed to be bigger than the T-Rex" says Dr. Henry Wu, the only carryover from the original Jurassic Park.
Owen looks at the scratchess from the D-Rex. Three isn't bad.
But there are a lot more than three. Plus, we learn that the D-Rex ate her sibling. That's not good.
Worse is, now she's in the cage with them!
Run Owen Run!
He's gonna make it! Not so lucky is the guy in the blue shirt.
"We have an asset out of containment," Claire says as she speeds along in her white car. That's an understatement.
The D-Rex is out. Owen is still running.
Here's a look at Jake Johnson's character, Lowery, which sounds very much like Nedry. He's wearing an old school Jurassic Park t-shirt and a look of terror.
An entire island running for their lives is bad for business.
Owen is still running from the D-Rex but now he has a hiding place.
Safe!!!!! Owen slides and rolls under the big truck.
A security team is walking around the jungle looking for the D-Rex.
Most of the main cast (not previously mentioned, Irrfan Kahn as investor Simon Masrani) watches.
Turns out the D-Rex ripped out her own tracking device. "She remembered where they put it in," Owen says. Sounds like the raptors in the first film who were testing the fences.
See ya later security guy. The D-Rex got you.
Back in the control room, Owen sees the life lines of the security team flatline one by one as they die. You can also see lots of cameras from around the park. No other real Easter Eggs here, though.
"She's killing for sport." The D-Rex is on a warpath.
Zach and Gray are still on the Gyrosphere ride. But now they're in the jungle. How did they get there? We don't know, but it's not good. Especially with that reflection.
The gyrosphere is under attack! The claw makes it look like the D-Rex but we can't be sure. We can be sure though, this scene is similar to the T-Rex attack in the first movie...
...Especially this reaction shot of the kids from the floor.
The trailer then cuts back to a moment likely before the above attack as a huge tail swings and crashes the windshield of the Gyrosphere.
This moment looks even earlier than the last two as the Gyrosphere is speeding along. Somehow, it seems Zach and Gray got shoved off the normal tour.
We finally get an idea of what's going on. It looks like a case of Dinosaur Pinball with an army of what looks to be Ankylosaurus.
But don't worry, that's not the only issue. The D-Rex is still throwing around those security guards that were looking for her earlier.
"You've got 20,000 people. You've got no more boats, you don't have enough guns." Here's Vincent D'Onofrio's character Vic Hoskins, the head of security.
Here's a member of Vic's team with one of those guns. He's shooting at something.
"If we do this," Owen says. "We do this my way."
Owen unleashes his Raptor Squad.
That previously revealed helicopter might not be as innocent as it looked. In a move that could potentially be a subversion of the first film, that serene helicopter ride might turn into a war scene as it opens fire on the D-Rex.
The trailer is now cutting between Vic's way and Owen's way, I think. One is a bit louder.
"Light it up!" Vic says, as the helicopter opens fire on the D-Rex.
We don't know how, but the helicopter does not with the fight with the D-Rex. It starts to fall out of the sky into some kind of structure. What is the structure?
The trailer makes it look like this Owen reaction is to the helicopter falling but the lighting doesn't match. So there's something else bad happening here. But something bad is definitely happening with the helicopter.
The Helicopter crashes through some kind of sphere structure...
...it hits the ground right next to our first full reveal of...
...The D-Rex! But we still don't know what happened with the helicopter. We're about to find out, however.
That was the Aviary, the Pteranodon enclosure, and now those flying creatures are out.
Here's a shift. A quick shot of what we assume is Claire (the red lighting matches a previously released image) as she's running from the D-Rex.
Back to an earlier scene, Owen doing things "his way" with Omar Sy's character, Barry. "Something's wrong," Barry says. "They're communicating." Back to that quote in a second.
We see the D-Rex roar in the Pteranodon cage.
Zach and Gray back up against a wall, but are looking at something smaller. Check out the direction of their eyes. That's different from the next shot.
Here, in a very Alan Grant moment, Owen protects the kids as something bigger is coming. Lots of Jurassic World merch getting screwed up here.
It seems it's the D-Rex reaching out at them.
The Raptors are chasing an ambulance. What are they, lawyers or something? But seriously, we thought these characters were good. Plus, who is in the ambulance? Looks a bit like Zach.
This shot is cut to make it look like the reverse of the ambulence chase, but it's clearly not. This is just a raptor messing up a security guy.
Remember that communication? Here the D-Rex is basically talking to the Pteranodons.
They get his message.
The Pteranodons take flight over the main area of the park, this is likely what everyone was running from before.
The Pteranodons are picking people up.
Who can fight the Pteranodons? How about the Mosasaurus? This is a shot from the earlier trailers but now, the shark that was being fed to the swimming dinosaur has changed to a flying Pteranodon. He went from hungry to hunter.
Snap. That Pteranodon is dead.
Jurassic World opens June 12.
