New 'Chappie' Trailer Is Like A Cousin To 'RoboCop'

This new Chappie trailer really makes Neill Blomkamp's latest film out to look like his own RoboCop. There's the designer played by Hugh Jackman who is trying to push a new military/police technology, with a design that looks a lot like the ED-209. There's the advent of a new drone police force, and the one who ends up with a more-human-than-robot consciousness. But is that just an easy sales pitch to hide the film's true personality? Check out the trailer below and see if you can figure it out.

There's some awfully clunky dialogue there, some of which I'm hoping will end up being trailer-only. (We see that at times, where on the nose lines are used for the trailer, where they're good for getting across a big idea in one line, but don't make the final edit.) And I hope there's a lot more personality in the film than what we see here; like the first trailer, this one seems to be hiding some of the film's true nature.

It's just two months until the film hits theaters, so we'll see soon.

Chappie opens on March 6. Trailer via Sony.

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there's one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.
