Don't Take Chris Evans' Captain America Shield From Him Just Yet

In Hollywood, nothing and no one is infallible. At some point, Marvel Studios will realize that. Some thought The Avengers would be a problem; others assume this summer's Guardians of the Galaxy would be their first misstep. Neither was. The Edgar Wright Ant-Man controversy is the next speed bump and, after that, the big issue could be the fact that many of Marvel's major stars are ending their contracts. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, and others who signed multi-picture contracts, will finish those deals in the coming years, leaving Marvel Studios with some major questions.

Chris Evans is among those actors whose contract will soon run out, and he has become the most discussed of the bunch. The reason being his latest film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, offered two potential people to take over the role. In a new interview, Evans talked about this possibility, along with the plot of Captain America 3 and his newfound love of directing. Read the latest Chris Evans Captain America news here.

Here's a great interview with MTV where Evans talks about knowing the plot of Captain America 3 and passing the shield. Quotes below.

If you can't watch the video, here's basically what he said to the following questions.

Evans said he knew a lot about Captain America 3 and when asked if he would be leading a new team of heroes, he said that would be cool, then added the following:

Marvel doesn't disappoint. Whatever you're hoping for, you're probably going to get.

Then asked about passing the shield to Bucky or Falcon, he said the following:

Who's handing off the shield? Don't take my job from me prematurely dude! I'm sure it'll happen at some point, all good things have to come to an end. But I'm really happy playing the character

Now, on that second point, Evans has two more Marvel movies on his contact: the aforementioned Captain America 3 and then The Avengers 3. While the above quote obviously makes it sound like he isn't ready to pass the shield just yet, this next quote from Entertainment Weekly tells another story:

The only thing I'm pursuing now are directing projects. Who knows, in five, 10 years I may miss acting and want to do that, but for now, I really, really like directing, and I'd love to keep doing it.

Evans' directorial debut, Before We Go, premiered at Toronto and was picked up by Radius TWC. He wants his second film to be a bigger movie so, unless he decides to direct Captain America 4 or something, I think he's going to pass the shield. And Evans knows that.
