VOTD: Everything Wrong With 'X-Men: First Class'
With X-Men: Days of Future Past picking up some very promising reviews on its way to theaters, now seems as good a time as any to take a long, hard look at the last mutant movie, X-Men: First Class. And no one's looking longer or harder than the folks at CinemaSins, who've made the comic book reboot the latest subject of their signature "Everything Wrong With" series.
As usual, the complaints range from totally valid (that villain plot does seem awfully convoluted) to the totally silly (who cares what happened with those Twinkies?). Watch the video after the jump.
Ultimately, the results were better than pessimists may have feared but worse than optimists may have hoped. On the one hand, the slick, well-acted adventure was a vast improvement over the previous X-Men movie, 2006's The Last Stand. On the other, it was the franchise's lowest-grossing entry ever up to that point. Fox hopes that X-Men: Days of Future Past will fare better, with some help from the original trilogy cast, but only time will tell if their efforts have paid off.
In the meantime, CinemaSins invites you to turn a jaded eye to X-Men: First Class. If you're looking for a deep thinkpiece, this... isn't really it. But if you just want to laugh about some of the more absurd bits of movie logic that drive the plot, this video may be right up your alley.
X-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 23.
