LOL: Anchorman 2' "No Joke Cut" Unveils A Clip
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues was crammed full of jokes, and there were so many more left on the cutting room floor that director Adam McKay was able to cobble together a second cut of the movie with 763 new jokes. But now it's time to get serious.
Paramount has just released a clip from what it calls Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues: No Joke Cut, with exactly zero jokes. By stripping away the humor, Anchorman 2 is finally exposed as the heart-wrenching domestic drama that it really is. Watch it after the jump.
The release of the clip is timed to coincide with the Blu-ray/DVD release of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which hits shelves today. Which happens to be April 1. April Fool's Day. Make of that what you will.
Though the Channel 4 / GNN news team is better known for providing humor than pathos, McKay hopes the "no joke cut" will show Ron Burgundy and his plight in a whole new light.
People know that Will and I do many joke options for our movies, but I think what gets lost is the fact that underneath the laughs there's a very powerful drama at work. Movies like Sophie's Choice, Ordinary People, and Breaking the Waves are the movies that inspire Will and me. I'm just glad, with the no joke cut, audiences can finally appreciate the rawness and drama of 'Anchorman 2.'
Producer Judd Apatow added, "Comedies often fail to get the consideration they deserve because laughter masks the serious storytelling going on beneath the surface. This new cut illustrates that Anchorman 2 can hold its weight against any drama."
Indeed. Based on this clip, it looks like the Oscar 2015 race has just begun. Your move, Unbroken.
