Why Do A Lot Of Mockbuster Titles Begin With The Letters A, B, C Or D?

Have you ever noticed that a lot of those crappy mockbuster movies have a title that begin with the letters A, B, C or D? Me neither, but now that Gizmodo mentioned it, it does seem a bit strange. Find out the answer after the jump.

As you might expect, it has something to do with the way people find movies. In the days of video stores, I'd start at the new release shelf at my local blockbuster, but things have changed in the digital age. You'd think that the digital world would end up giving us more filters, more ways to find movies, but most on demand channels just have an alphabetized listing (and even if there are a few genre folders, they are also alphabetized).

Gizmodo found this chart produced by Quartz which seems to show that a lot of people end up watching a movie in the first couple pages of the on demand listing, in the letters A, B, C, and D:ZZ59562B08

Looking at the line-up of movies released by the mockbuster movie studio Asylum, you can see they definitely (and smartly) are trying to take advantage of this knowledge.
