'The Wolverine' Unveils Two New Posters And Eight More Stills [Updated With Trailer Announcement]

Thanks in a large part to James Mangold's Twitter feed, we've been fed a steady stream of Wolverine images for the last several months. Today we get to gorge ourselves on eight more, plus two new posters.

The new pics offer much better looks at the trio of formidable ladies that have entered Wolverine's life – Mariko (Tao Okamoto), Yukio (Rila Fukushima), and Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova). The posters, meanwhile, remind us that Hugh Jackman is really good at screaming with his shirt off. Hit the jump to check 'em out.

The first Wolverine teaser poster was quite striking, even beautiful. The second was less unusual, but still pretty cool. But these... I think the marketing team dropped the ball here. The one with all the ninjas looks like a bad amateur Photoshop job, and the one in the rain just looks cheesy. At least Fox still has four more months to try and make us forget all about these.

Thankfully, the new images from EW are much better.

Most of the images from the set have shown Wolverine front and center, and Khodchenkova in particular has barely appeared at all. It's great to finally see these characters in action and get an idea of what (or whom, rather) Wolverine will be dealing with during his stint in Japan.

Also starring Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, and Brian Tee, The Wolverine opens July 26. The first theatrical trailer hits this week, as you can see below.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.
