New Pacific Rim Image Emphasizes Monstrous Scale, Once Again [Updated]
While Guillermo del Toro's "giant monsters versus giant robots" movie Pacific Rim hopefully has more going on than just that concept, much of what we've seen from the film so far really emphasizes that the monsters and robots in the movie are really big. Super-big. Like, almost unfathomably large.
The latest shot from the film is an image of a newscast that depicts the footprint (or handprint) of one of the film's monstrous Kaiju, smushed into sand. It's big enough to be mistaken for a natural geological formation.
Update: Legendary has released another still from the film, and we've added it below.
We may well get some new Pacific Rim footage in early April, as the film will be featured at the Warner Bros. panel at Wondercon in Anaheim on Saturday, March 30th. Peter and Germain will be on the ground there, so we'll have a report on the panel then.
Update: Here's another new pic from the film. An accompanying caption from producers at Legendary says "This is as close as you ever want to get to Kaiju blood."
Pacific Rim opens on July 12. In addition all the robots and monsters, the film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky,Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Brad William Henke, and Diego Klattenhoff. Image via SFX.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
