See A Slightly Reworked Trailer For 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'
You might see the headline for this second, slightly different trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and think that Peter Jackson & Co. have already reworked the ad campaign to represent their adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel as a trilogy rather than two films.
That's not what this trailer is, however. It's a little early to push the trilogy. This one follows more or less the same trajectory as the debut trailer, with a reintroduction to Bilbo Baggins (Ian Holm, briefly, and Martin Freeman, primarily), Gandalf (Ian McKellen), and the world of Middle-Earth. But there is some new footage this time, just a bit, with a few shots cut into what we've already seen.
Here's the rest of the film's massive cast: Richard Armitage, Graham McTavish, Ken Stott, Aidan Turner, Dean O'Gorman, Mark Hadlow, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Peter Hambleton, William Kircher, James Nesbitt, Stephen Hunter, Christopher Lee, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Andy Serkis, Hugo Weaving, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mikael Persbrandt, Lee Pace, Stephen Fry, Cate Blanchett, Sylvester McCoy, Jeffrey Thomas, Mike Mizrahi, Bret McKenzie, Ryan Gage, Barry Humphries, Conan Stevens, and John Bell.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 14, 2012.
"The Hobbit" follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.
Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever ... Gollum.
Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities ... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.
