See Footage Of The Accident Scene From David Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' [Updated]

David Fincher and Trent Reznor, or their people at least, are running a great low-key and 'unofficial' promo site for Fincher's version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Today the site, Mouth Taped Shut, has another little treat.

In this case what we get to see is 'vintage' footage of the accident scene that provides the background for the film's main story. (For those not familiar with the story, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo centers in part on the search for a girl who disappeared while the island she lived on was essentially on lockdown after this accident.) What you'll see in the clip below is a bit of emulated Super 8 footage that shows someone driving by the scene of the bridge accident. Actually, I'm just assuming it is emulated Super 8 footage — for all we know Fincher dug up some actual Super 8 stock to use for this sequence. Check it out below.

Update: As we surmised based on the tags in the MTS post, there's more to this than just the video. Hit the jump for info on a time-sensitive viral contast.

The question is: what else is there to see here? Why are we rubbernecking along with the people in the frame? If you look at the original post on MTS, you'll see suspicious tags like 'slash' and 'look closer.' So what else can you find in this footage? Time to load up the full HD version...

Update: If you check out the URL you'll find this screen:

What's that all about? The folks at Mentorless suspect that something is hidden in San Diego, and if that's the case there are only two hours left to find it. Whatever this secret may be...

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, aka the "feel-bad movie of Christmas," opens on December 21. Check out the long trailer here. [MTS]
