VOTD: '[the Films Of] David Fincher'
We're on record as having enjoyed Kees van Dijkhuizen's "[the films of] Sofia Coppola" and "[the films of] Danny Boyle" in the past. The latest director to get the "[films of]" treatment is David Fincher. Van Dijkhuizen has compiled this montage of films by Fincher, showcasing the director's unique style. Watch it after the jump.
Fincher really likes his dark, muted color palettes, doesn't he?
I think "[the films of] David Fincher" might actually be my favorite of the series so far. Part of it is that Fincher's had some truly impressive, memorable scenes in his films, and part of it is that van Dijkhuizen does a good job putting these together. The soundtrack — Kanye West's "Power," Working for a Nuclear Free City's "Silent Melody," and Arcade Fire's "My Body is a Cage" — also helps.
The films featured in the montage are:
Alien 3
Seven
The Game
Fight Club
Panic Room
Zodiac
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Social Network
"[the films of] David Fincher" is the third video in a twelve-part series by van Dijkhuizen, each of which will feature the filmography of a different director. Though the films are intended to highlight the directors' work, I have to admire the energy and skill that van Dijkhuizen puts into these as well. His feel for rhythm and tone are what keep these videos from just becoming a random mishmash of disparate films. Head over to his Tumblr for a behind-the-scenes look on the hows and whys of making the montage.
Fincher's next project, of course, is the highly anticipated American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, based on the novel by Stieg Larsson. The film, which stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, began shooting last fall. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is scheduled for a December 21, 2011 release.
Discuss: van Dijkhuizen has yet to reveal which director he'll be paying tribute to next. What's your guess?
