'Wrath Of The Titans' Moves Back A Week To March 30, 2012

Never underestimate the potential drawing power of Jennifer Lawrence with a bow and arrow. The Oscar-nominee hasn't even officially be cast in Gary Ross's adaptation of The Hunger Games but Warner Brothers has already blinked and moved their sequel to Clash of the Titans, Wrath of the Titans, away from the March 23, 2012 release date that both films originally shared. It'll now come out on March 30, 2012 and face off against Seth Rogen. Read more after the break.

Deadline broke the news of the Jonathan Liebsman directed sequel moving its release date.

When we first wrote about the news of both huge films opening on the same date, I surmised that The Hunger Games would move first. But, I did say that Wrath of the Titans could potentially open at anytime and Warner Brothers probably realized that one week wasn't that big of a deal. Already staked out on March 30, 2012 are the 3D animated film The Pirates! Band of Misfits and the Seth Rogen/Barbara Streisand comedy My Mother's Curse. On paper, neither of those films cut into the audience of a 3D action epic, but Seth Rogen certainly shares the male demographic. The studio is probably just playing the percentages that a comedy audience is smaller than the four quadrant audience for an action epic like Hunger Games.

I also wonder if Warner Brothers moving its release date is a tip of the cap to Lionsgate and Ross if they do potentially cast Lawrence. What I mean is, maybe Warner Brothers would have been less frightened of a more faithful adaptation of The Hunger Games because that would mean a younger cast, which could make the film seem kiddie to some people. By aging everyone up, Ross might alienate some fans, but he's certainly making the right decision on a financial and marketing level. Maybe Warner Brothers agrees and decided to be graceful nice and early.

Why do you think Wrath of the Titans decided to move instead of The Hunger Games?
