'Harry Potter' Epilogue Reshoots Are Finished; Actor Playing Young Snape Revealed

Now the Harry Potter series is really finished. The core cast recently reconvened at Leavesden Studios to reshoot one of the more memorable sequences that takes place in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2: the epilogue.

You might have missed it a little over a month ago when Peter talked to Daniel Radcliffe around the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, and the actor mentioned that there was a plan to reshoot the epilogue to the story. I'll keep all details about that after the break, just in case there are readers who follow the films but don't know how the books end. In addition, the names and faces of a couple young actors in the film have been revealed, including the lad who plays young Snape.

So, earlier this year, Daniel Radcliffe said of the epilogue:

We'll be reshooting parts of it, I think...It was an interesting one, because I think we made it very hard on ourselves, because we shot it at King's Cross, for real. And, you know, this time we'll be shooting it in Leavesden on a set, because it's...We made it very hard on ourselves. To have to rush that sequence, and it's an important sequence, is not something that any of us want to do. So I think next time, when we come back to it and revisit certain moments in it, we'll be trying to keep it paced slowly...

He's discussing the part of the story in which the surviving characters are seen a couple decades later. Images surfaced from the original shoot, and the makeup used to age the actors drew a lot of criticism, in part because it made them look quite a lot older than should have been the case.

The sequence (or parts of it) has now been reshot; the additional work wrapped this weekend. Some footage leaked out, but has been removed from the source. It could well still be floating out there somewhere, but at the moment I haven't found it.

In addition, ScreenTerrier (via BadassDigest) reports that Bertie Gilbert will be seen as Scorpius Malfoy, son of Draco Malfoy, in that epilogue. (No word on whether this is new or previously set casting.)

And Benedict Clarke will be seen in the film as the young Severus Snape. That's him on the left, below, with Bertie Gilbert on the right.
