Movie Trailer & Poster: '13'

A few months back, we posted a Russian movie trailer for 13, the American remake of the cult French film 13 Tzameti, starring Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, 50 Cent and Ray Winstone, both written and directed by Géla Babluani. It's about a young man (Sam Riley) who mistakenly ends up at a high stakes, life or death Russian roulette game. So if you watched that original trailer and liked the visuals but had no idea what was going on, an English language version has come online along with a poster. And if you never imagined you'd be bored by a simple movie trailer, prove yourself wrong after the break.

Thanks to Shadow & Act (as well as The Playlist) for the heads up.

Here's the trailer, which pretty much spoils the whole movie if you can sit though its mundane pacing.

And here's the poster.

Now, as you can probably tell, I'm not a big fan of the original film. Without getting into too many spoilers, I think it has a great look and a very enticing conceit, but totally lacks tension. Once the film gets going – after like 30 minutes of pointless plot development – any person with half a brain can immediately figure out what's going to happen. It then becomes very tedious to reach its inevitable conclusion. Nothing ever strays from the game at hand.

And though I have yet to see the remake, there's nothing about it that is exciting me. The trailer shows that both films share a climax (though I would imagine the American version could have a different ending) and while I love many of these actors, from the trailer, it doesn't look like they are doing anything beyond what you'd expect them to do. Plus, the film screened at South by Southwest months ago and still doesn't have a US release date. I smell a new 50 Cent movie on Blu-ray shelves soon.

I know I'm in the minority for not liking the original but am I totally off base in these thoughts about the remake? Are you at all intrigued by this trailer and poster?
