Movie Trailer #2: 'The Way Back'
In the past few weeks we've started to see footage from The Way Back, which marks the return of great Australian director Peter Weir. Our last look at the film (besides the poster) was a UK trailer that was a good introduction to the story of escapees from a Siberian gulag trying to make their way to safety. Now Newmarket films has released a US trailer for the film, which will get an Oscar-qualifying run in December before opening for real on January 21.
A lot of the footage here is what we saw in the UK trailer, but there is some new material as well and the film still looks epic, dramatic and compelling. This has quickly become one of my most anticipated films for the next few months. I'd look forward to anything with Peter Weir's name on it, but we just don't see films like this very often of late, so that helps crank up my expectations.
Here's the Newmarket synopsis for the film, via Yahoo, which also has the trailer in HD.
Chronicles the escape of a small group of multi-national prisoners from a Siberian gulag in 1940 and their epic life affirming journey over thousands of miles across five hostile countries.
The Way Back stars Colin Farrell, Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess and Saoirse Ronan and was directed by Peter Weir. It opens in LA on December 29 and in wider but still limited release on January 21.
