Slight Details Revealed About Charlize Theron's Role In 'Mad Max: Fury Road'

We don't know very much about the next chapter(s) in the Mad Max saga, which series director George Miller is prepping for a shoot early in 2011. We've known that Tom Hardy is the new Max, and that Charlize Theron has a role in the film(s). Hell, we don't even know what the basic plot is, or how the story will carry through from Mad Max: Fury Road to the reported follow-up, to be shot back to back, Mad Max: Furiosa.

But now we've got a scant bit of detail about Charlize Theron's character, thanks to the woman who is on board to do her stunts.

Annabelle Williams, a 22-year old swimmer, has been hired to double for Theron. That usually wouldn't say much, but Williams has a very distinguishing characteristic: her left arm ends just below the elbow.

Speaking to ABC, Williams explains what she's doing in the film after getting the call (last December!) to work on Mad Max:

They are going to film me from a very long distance for the fighting so that they don't have to CGI out her arm...I will be her, but just not [in] the face...I've been training for about six months with a guy who was in the SAS and trains the military and things.

So: Theron is one-armed, which is a potentially interesting detail. But we don't know how or why she loses her left hand, nor whether it will be an on-screen story point.

This new Mad Max will shoot in February, with cameras rolling natively in 3D.  Nicholas Hoult, Riley Keough, Zoe Kravitz, Adelaide Clemens and Teresa Palmer are also reportedly set for roles alongside Theron and Hadry.
