Christopher Nolan Talks About Possible 'Inception' Video Game

One vaguely disappointing aspect of Christopher Nolan's film Inception was that, despite a lengthy video-game inspired training sequence in which Leonardo DiCaprio teaches Ellen Page how to physically manipulate a dream world, there isn't much of that large-scale manipulation in the scenes that follow. (There's a lot of flying about, yes, but not so much of the street-bending stuff.)

A perfect home for further street-warping adventures in the world of dreams would be a video game. Don't worry: Christopher Nolan is (possibly) way ahead of us in thinking about it.

As quoted in Variety while doing press for Inception in Italy, Nolan recently said,

...one thing we are looking at doing is developing a video game based on the world of the film, which has all kinds of ideas that you can't fit into a feature film...That's something we've been talking about and are looking at doing long-term, in a couple of years.

That's a pretty open-ended statement, and the possible result of game development could yield a great many things. But Inception is already very game-derived as it is, and I can't think of many filmmakers I'd be more happy to see overseeing a game spun off from their film. A title that offered the chance to construct and bend cities on a huge scale would be great, but there are a hell of a lot of other possible options as well. Hopefully none that are followed up will include a simple shooter — we've got loads of those already.

(Inception, remember, already had a low-key maze video game as a promo tool.)

And for what it's worth, Nolan also said that he's working on the third Batman film right now, joking that despite a lack of a green light at the moment, "they haven't told me they don't want to do it, so I'm hopeful." (And the green light will no doubt flash once the script is turned in, one being fully contingent upon the other.)
