Movie Trailer: 'The Tourist,' With Johnny Depp And Angelina Jolie

I'm half amazed that cameras even managed to roll on The Tourist, much less that there is now a trailer. The film, which was finally directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp plus co-stars Paul Bettany, Rufus Sewell and Timothy Dalton, took so long to come together, with so many cast and director changes, that this trailer is proof of just how single-minded the Hollywood machine can be, when it wants to. Plus, it's entertaining in a fluff sort of way.

Is it just me, or does Depp have a little bit of a 'Jimmy Stewart in a Hitchcock film' thing going on? Maybe it's just me. Regardless, he's funny here, and the trailer is pretty brisk. The couple meets, there's (maybe) some romance, some espionage, some danger, a few charges filed by the police. Just your standard vacation in Italy with Angelina Jolie.

The synopsis:

Frank is an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Venice, Frank pursues a potential romance but soon finds himself the pursued as he and Elise are caught in a whirlwind of intrigue and danger.

The Tourist opens on December 10.
