Movie Trailer: The Freebie
Phase 4 Films has released a movie trailer for the acclaimed 2010 Sundance Film Festival entry The Freebie. Written, directed and starring Katie Aselton, The Freebie is a romantic drama about a young couple in Los Angeles who try to spice up their marriage by allowing each other a one-night "freebie." You might recognize Aselton from the Duplass brothers films The Puffy Chair, Cyrus, short films such as Scrapple and The Intervention, and the television series The League. She also produced The Puffy Chair and is married to Mark Duplass. I missed this film at Sundance, and have been kicking myself ever since. Watch the trailer now embedded after the jump. Darren (Dax Shepard) and Annie (Aselton) have an enviable relationship built on love, trust and communication–they still enjoy each others' company and laugh at each others' jokes. Unfortunately, they can't remember the last time they had sex. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with an idea for a way to spice things up. The deal: one night of freedom, no strings attached, no questions asked. Could a "freebie" be the cure for their ailing sex life? And will they go through with it? THE FREEBIE is an insightful and humorous look at love, sustaining relationships, and the awkwardness of monogamy when the haze of lust has faded. The film was produced by Adele Romanski and executive produced by Aselton and CYRUS director Mark Duplass.
Opens September 17th in NYC (at the Angelika Film Center) with a nationwide roll out to follow.
