Will Another Original 'Scream' Star Return For 'Scream 4'?

Update: /Film reader David points out that the actor in question is currently filming a movie called "Home Run Derby outside of Detroit, which you know isn't that far away. I would take it, that two friends just met up since they were in the same area." I'm betting this is the case.

Previously, it has been reported that original Scream cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette and even Roger L. Jackson, the voice actor who provides the creepy voice of Ghostface, were set to return for the latest installment Scream 4. Todays rumors spread across the interwebs that another original cast member might have a role in the new film. The rumor could be a portential spoiler, so I'm keeping it after the jump. Ann Arbor (found via: bloody disgusting) is reporting that Neve Campbell and Matthew Lillard were both spotted having dinner the other night in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the filming location of Wes Craven's new sequel. Fans of the series will recall that Lillard played the funny Stuart 'Stu' Macher, who along with Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) turned out to be the killers underneath the ghostface costume in the original 1996 film Scream. Of course, at the end of the film both Stu and Billy were killed. Stu had a television dropped on his head and was electrocuted to death, while Billy died of a headshot. So is it really possibly that Matthew Lillard would reprise the role of Stu in the new film? I'm not sure. He's too old to do a flashback sequence, and the character was clearly killed in the first film. It's possible that Sidney might still be having nightmares about the killers that changed her life. Who knows.

We will say this, months ago it was falsely rumored that Jamie Kennedy would reprise the role as the love-able horror film-geek Randy in Scream 4. But the rumor was quickly debunked by series screenwriter Kevin Williamson , who when asked if there is "any chance we'll see some familiar faces besides those of David, Courtney and Neve?," responded:

No. We're not that movie. We're not that universe where you can bring people back from the dead. That would be just a cheat. It's such a disservice. Everyone's like, "When's Randy coming back?" I'm like, "You know what? I would love nothing more than to have Jamie Kennedy in the film. However to have Randy in the film, it sort of just takes it... I mean Scream 2 was a lie, you know? It's a false move. So I just won't do it. I can't do that. I just won't do it."

So does that confirm that Lillard won't be featured in the new movie? Not exactly. The quote comes months before production — it has since been rumored that Williamson was replaced, and a massive rewrite was ordered on the script (during production, which is the worst possible rumor ever). So you never know...
