Sam Worthington Developing Comic Book Imprint With Eye Towards Future Film Projects

As more and more comic book properties are snapped up by production companies, it makes sense that actors are starting to get in on the creation of comics on the ground floor, the better to develop properties in which they might eventually star. The latest actor to get into the comics biz is Sam Worthington. Because being attached to a load of big-budget pictures isn't enough, he's working with Radical Studios and his own Full Clip Productions to create comics that might become future films.

THR reports that Worthington is working with Michael Schwartz and John Schwartz, and that potential film projects could star Worthington and John Schultz.

But the kicker here for me is that the first project that will see print is Damaged, which "centers on two brothers committed to justice in different ways — one inside the law, one violently beyond it.  Now with the end of their careers approaching, they must train their replacements, hoping to remake them in their image. But the vigilante code has changed and the brothers are left unprepared for the true lawlessness and corruption that is about to be unleashed."

That description isn't terribly inspiring, but the book is written by David Lapham, whose comic series Stray Bullets had some really tremendous writing. I've been hoping Lapham might write a crime film at some point. Based on THR's article it doesn't sound as if Lapham would write the screenplay for a feature version, however. Shame about that as I'd think he'd be quite able to turn out a great script.
