Rumor: Guy Ritchie Wants Daniel Day-Lewis As Moriarty In Sherlock Holmes 2?
Who will play Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes 2? How about two-time Academy Award winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis?
SHH is reporting a rumor that Guy Ritchie is hoping to get Day-Lewis to play Moriarty in the Sherlock sequel. For now lets consider this nothing more than an unconfirmed rumor.
Last year, it was rumored that Brad Pitt had filmed some scenes (an extended camero) as Holmes' nemesis Moriarty during a set of secret reshoots for the original movie, but Warner Bros denied these claims. Those of you who have seen the movie know that Moriarty does make a brief cameo appearance, which is used to tease a sequel. But the character remains in the shadows and cannot be recognized.
We assumed the previous rumor was a complete fabrication but, The Hollywood Reporter later claimed that Brad Pitt has in fact had discussions with producers to play Moriarty in the developing sequel, though there is no deal in place as of yet. Pitt starred in Ritchie's second feature film Snatch.
Kieran and Michele Mulroney have penned the continuation. The brother screenwriting team wrote the imaginary Superhero coming-of-middle-age dramedy Paper Man which premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival and the dumped DC Comics live-action film Justice League: Mortal. Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham, Lionel Wigram and Simon Kinberg all worked on the screenplay for the first film.
