What's This About A New Star Wars Movie?

So... is there really going to be a new Star Wars movie? I wouldn't bet against it, but I also sure as heck would bet on it. Here's the story, so you can judge for yourself if we're just listening to crossed wires shorting out or not. You might just decide that Lucas is about to do the very thing that would finally nail his saga's coffin shut.

Thomas Dolby, poptastic mastermind of Hyperactive and She Blinded Me With Science fame, posted an update to his blog about his current stay in Tiburon, CA, across the bay from San Francisco. His host, he revealed, is one Paul Sebastien of Lucasarts. The kicker comes when Dolby writes:

Last night he was telling me a little about the forthcoming Star Wars-related TV show, movie and online games—very cool indeed.

An Aint it Cool talkbacker spotted this and informed them, and now it's taking up a page of their site.

If we were to get really fussy and try to break down just what Dolby was saying, it seems perhaps that he's talking about a set of TV shows, a movie and some online games that all belong together. I mean, not necessarily, but in his mind that seems to maybe be the case.

If there is a new big screen picture coming, I'd hazard a guess that it will serve a similar function to the Clone Wars toon movie of late, something like a special extended edition of a small screen franchise. Could this be how Lucas and co. plan on introducing their TV spin-off characters and setting?

Could it just be the new Star Tours film that Dolby, and by extension Sebastien, was talking about? Or a 3D dimensionalisation of an old film? I think Dolby might have mentioned the latter more directly, and you could even take the fact that he didn't as a bucket of water on the rumours, if you're that twitchy.

Quick, somebody get Rick McCallum in a headlock and knuckle his scalp until we get answers.

Dolby goes on to say:

I'm not a huge fan myself (and definitely not a gamer) but it sounds like Mr Lucas has got his head into a good place. I met him several times when I was working on a movie in the 80s called [name suppressed to protect credibility!] and he's a decent chap, but I could have done without the last three SW movies.

Encouraging?

Anyway, let's now consider this a matter of /Film record, a story to reconsider when the truth, however little there is to it, comes out.
