Julian McMahon, Ernest Borgnine, Richard Dreyfuss And Brian Cox Join Red
There are a great many comic books being adapted to film these days, and it's easy to get lost as you wade through the sea of adaptations, potential projects and also-ran efforts. But a good cast will get and keep my attention every time, and the lineup for Red, Robert Schwentke's adaptation of the Warren Ellis-penned comic book. The cast was already stellar, and now a few more excellent names have been added. Ernest f***ing Borgnine? That's crazy! He's 92!
Joining the film are Julian McMahon, Richard Dreyfuss, Brian Cox and Borgnine, says THR. I like McMahon well enough, but having those three old guys in the mix is excellent. So happy to see Dreyfus earning paychecks these days.
So what have we got here? This is the rundown:
As a C.I.A. operative, Paul Moses's unique talent for killing took him around the world, from one hotspot to another, carrying out the deadly orders of his superiors. And when he retired, he wanted to put his bloody past behind him. But when a new administration takes over the White House, the powers that be decide that Moses knows too much, forcing him back into the game against the agency that trained him.
Red features Bruce Willis as Paul Moses. Julian McMahon is the Vice President part of the 'new administration'. Borgnine is an archive guy, the 'keeper of the CIA's darkest records,' while Dreyfuss is "a wealthy man who builds a fortune out of lucrative government contracts," IE possibly the guy who helps send new assassins after Moses. Brian Cox is another ex-sky from the Cold War era, and an old enemy of Moses.
Also in the mix are Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John C. Reilly and Mary Louise Parker. All that and we've still got to hear the casting for a couple of the younger assassins.
Incidentally, this will be Brian Cox's second appearance in a film called Red. He was in Lucky McKee's 2008 film, too. IMDB confusion!
