Kryptonite Is Real
A mineral found by geologists in Serbia shares virtually the same chemical composition as the fictional kryptonite from the Superman's DC comic book universe, according to Reuters. The material, usually shown as having been created from the remains of Superman's native planet of Krypton, generally has detrimental effects on Superman. In the comic book and movie series, kryptonite is usually found in the form of a glowing green rock or crystalline. The scientific name for the rock has been 'Sodium lithium boron silicate hydroxide with fluorine'. This is what Dr Chris Stanley found.
"We will have to be careful with it — we wouldn't want to deprive Earth of its most famous superhero!," said Dr Chris Stanley, a mineralogist at London's Natural History Museum.
The real kryptonite is actually a white, powdery substance which contains no fluorine and is non-radioactive. The new mineral will be named Jadarite, I guess kryptonite might have already been trademarked.
