The Last Airbender Movie Trailer

The Last Airbender

Paramount Pictures has released a new movie trailer for M. Night Shyamalan‘s The Last Airbender on Yahoo. I was somewhat impressed by the original teaser trailer which accomplished everything in one continuous (yet stitched together) shot. But the television spot which aired during the Super Bowl had me completely sold. To me that spot had all the power of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the film will live up to that expectation — but the tv spot was pretty damn awesome.

The full length movie trailer isn’t quite as impressive, possibly due to the fact that we actually get to see the young actor’s performances. I am however still very impressed with the action sequences. And everything I’ve heard about the story of the original animated television series, be it from Totally Rad Show or other trusted friends, gives me faith that the story exists to back up the spectacle.
Watch the trailer embedded after the jump and please leave your thoughts in the comments below. I would love to hear what you thought (and please put your Shyamalan bias beside).

Official Plot Synopsis: Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live-action feature film is set in a world where human civilization is divided into four nations: Water, Earth, Air and Fire. The Fire Nation is waging a ruthless, oppressive war against the other three nations. The film’s hero, the reluctant young Aang (Noah Ringer), is the “Last Airbender” — the Avatar who, according to prophecy, has the ability to manipulate all of the elements and bring all the nations together. Aided by a protective teenage Waterbender named Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her bull-headed brother Sokka, Aang proceeds on a perilous journey to restore balance to their war-torn world. Dev Patel plays the Fire Nation’s evil prince Zuko. Exiled from the Fire Nation by his father, Zuko is sent to capture the Avatar in order to restore his honor and right to the throne.

The Last Airbender will hit theaters on July 2nd 2010.
