'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Poster Close-Up Reveals Character Spoiler

One of the biggest gripes audiences had with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 was that it featured too many villains — there were Venom, the Sandman, and a Green Goblin-influenced Harry Osborn. That's a lot, and it seemed like easing up would be a good idea, but Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 isn't backing off from the "everything and the kitchen sink" approach. The film features Electro as a primary baddie, but also the Rhino, and one more antagonist.

A recent poster reveal gave up that third person's identity (which had been widely speculated, but still) and now we've got a close-up that gives us even more info.

If the headline didn't clue you in, the stuff below may be marketing, but it will count as a spoiler to many of you.

Here's the close-up of one character displayed on the international triptych poster for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, via Twitter user Tupacca:

That sure looks like Dane DeHaan as the Green Goblin. Or at least, it definitely isn't Chris Cooper, who plays Norman Osborn, who is traditionally the Gobin. Since Cooper was cast we've wondered if he'd be riding the glider, but this tells us otherwise. While DeHaan, playing Norman's son Harry, isn't typically under the Goblin mask, he seemed like the more likely culprit for this version of the story. Now the question is, will both Osborn men menace Spidey as some version of the Goblin? And which of them will survive to be part of the presumed Sinister Six in the next film? (That is likely DeHaan, obviously.)

A trailer for the film is set to debut on Thursday; perhaps that will pull all these elements into focus.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens on May 2, 2014.
