Well here’s a new twist on social marketing that hasn’t been used yet, and one that just might work.
We all know that This Is The End is chock full of huge comedy (and movie) stars: James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson just to name a few. Its blend of R-rated humor and apocalyptic action and self-reflexivity make it a film aimed squarely at a very specific audience. The kind of people who spend all of their time on social media. And to help get the film’s Facebook likes up, Franco, Rogen, Baruchel and McBride have promised to do increasingly gross things to each other as more people Like the movie.

On June 13th 2012 I visited the set of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s This is The End. After the jump you will find a list 35 things I learned while visiting the set, including how the project was put together and the many similarities and differences between the real life Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, and the versions of they play in the film.

Trailers! Who has time to watch them all? There are something like forty wide releases due out this summer alone. If you assume each trailer runs about two minutes, that’s about an hour and half of your life you’ll never get back. That’s time you could’ve spent actually watching one of these movies.
If you only watch one trailer this spring, then, you’ll want to make it this one. This three-minute supercut teases most of the season’s biggest releases, from Iron Man 3 to The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. It’s surprisingly coherent, which may suggest that these titles aren’t as different as the filmmakers would like us to think. Or maybe it just proves that with the right music and some skillful editing, you can totally change the meaning of any scene. In any case, watch it after the jump.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s This Is the End isn’t due out for another couple of months, but obviously a bunch of potheads like the ones depicted in the film aren’t about to let 4/20 pass unnoticed. The apocalyptic comedy has just put up a “holiday” greeting, in which stars Rogen, James Franco, Jay Baruchel, and Danny McBride show us their plans for the special day.
And since the portion of the audience that’s celebrating along with them is probably prone to getting the munchies, the studio’s offering to satisfy those cravings with some free popcorn. Hit the jump for more.

By definition, the apocalypse can only really happen once. But in the movies, it seems to crop up every few weeks or so.
Today we have three TV spots that face the end of the world in very different ways. In M. Night Shyamalan‘s After Earth, Will Smith and Jaden Smith struggle for survival on the now-uninhabitable planet. The characters of Guillermo del Toro‘s Pacific Rim, meanwhile, are trying to “cancel the apocalypse” with the aid of some giant-ass robots. And the famous folk in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s This Is the End may just go out laughing. Check ‘em all out after the jump.

This week’s second trailer for This Is The End once again features what’s sure to be one of the better trailer moments this year: Michael Cera slapping Rihanna on the butt, and then her punching him in the face. In the red band trailer, that’s followed up with more of Cera’s true colors. In this all-ages version, things feel decidedly more tame, but no less funny. Both trailers together give us a great of idea of what to expect on June 12 when directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg bring together many of their funny, famous friends for a hard-R rated comedy about the end of the world.

Put James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson in a room together and there’s no telling what’s going to happen. They might make a sequel to Pineapple Express, they might try and perform an exorcism, or they might just rip each other to shreds verbally for each other’s enjoyment. And that’s not even considering what’s going on outside.
In This is the End, written and directed by Rogen and Evan Goldberg, those six actors are the survivors of a massive, star-studded party that occurs at James Franco’s house during the start of the apocalypse. Many stars die and, come June 12, many laughs will be had. After the big WonderCon panel over the weekend (read our coverage and interview here) they’re debuting a brand new red-band trailer. Check it out below, and check back later this week for the tamer, but still hilarious, green band trailer too. Read More »
