Marvel Studios and Paramount will be unleashing Thor upon the world in just under two months — the film opens on May 6 — and we could well see another chunk or two of the film released to the public before opening day. In the meantime, check out the French trailer for the film, which offers a couple of very slight new visions that didn’t make it into the last couple domestic trailers. Read More »

[UPDATE: This original story has been updated with an official press release, plot description, character names and high resolution cast photo. Check it all out after the jump.]
With Keanu Reeves set to star in Carl Erik Rinsch‘s 47 Ronin, by my math, still leaves about 46 Ronin to be cast. The 3D production is heating up and Variety is reporting that four more roles have been cast. Japanese actors Tadanobu Asano, Kou Shibasaki, Rinko Kikuchi and Hiroyuki Sanada have all joined the film.
Asano is familiar to film geeks for his roles in Ichi the Killer, Mongol and Zatoichi among many others, plus he’s got a two big movies coming up, Thor and Battleship. Shibasaki was in Go, Battle Royale and the original One Missed Call. Kikuchi is known to American audiences from her leading roles in Babel and The Brothers Bloom and Sanada is best known for roles in The Last Samuari, Sunshine and as Dogen in the final season of Lost. Ken Watanabe was rumored to be a part of the film, but that is still just a rumor.

In late July we saw a leaked version of the Comic Con trailer for Thor. The very unofficial release spread like wildfire, but Marvel Studios managed to scrub it away from many corners of the web.
Now the official trailer release is out, and you can see it after the break. Read More »

Well, this image shows two of the Warriors Three from Kenneth Branagh‘s Thor: on the right side of the steps are Fandral the Dashing (Josh Dallas) and Hogun the Grim (Tadanobu Asano). At the very far right, you can just see what I guess is the right leg of Volstagg the Valiant (Ray Stevenson).
This is the same image that arrived via the LA Times over the weekend, but now in high-res. You can see a lot more detail in the armor and helmet of Loki (Tom Hiddleston, on the left in the green cape), and in the costumes for Fandral, Hogun, Frigga (Rene Russo), and Odin (Anthony Hopkins). You can even make out better detail on Huginn and Muninn, Odin’s two ravens that are perched atop his throne. Those ravens are Thought and Memory, in case you needed a little Asgardian refresher. Hit the jump for the full version, and for a high-res version of the Thor and Odin photo from EW. Read More »

A new photo from Marvel Studio’s big screen adaptation of Thor was released in today’s print edition of the Los Angeles Times. The new photo reveals a wide angle view of the epic set of the Hall of Asgard, featuring a kneeling Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Asgardians Fandral the Dashing (Josh Dallas), Hogun the Grim (Tadanobu Asano) and Frigga (Rene Russo); and Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) both sporting ceremonial helmets. Check out the full photo after the jump. Click to enlarge.

Following up on the recent news that Thor will start shooting in January, we’ve also caught wind of some casting additions. Tonight we’ve learned that Ray Stevenson (Rome, Punisher:Warzone), Tadanobu Asano (Ichi the Killer, Mongol), and Stuart Townsend (The League of Extraordinary Gentleman) have joined the project as “The Warriors Three”, a group of Asgardian badasses who fight alongside Thor. They’ll be joining the likes of Chris Hemsworth (as Thor), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), and Natalie Portman.
While Hemsworth didn’t seem like inspired casting for the film, I’ve been intrigued by all the other casting choices director Kenneth Branagh has made. Now I just wished that Stevenson’s Rome compatriot Kevin McKidd landed the role of Thor so we could get something resembling the further adventures of Vorenus and Pullo (with the welcome addition of the whole Norse god business).
