Resident Evil The Final Chapter Trailer - Milla Jovovich

Much like the long life of the Fast and Furious franchise, it’s hard to believe that early next year we’ll be getting the sixth film in the Resident Evil franchise. While the film series based on the video games of the same name hasn’t really found the same massive audience after starting back in 2002, there are still plenty of fans eager to see how it all ends.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter appears to be pulling out all the stops this time as a new international trailer shows even more absolutely batshit insane action sequences featuring hordes of zombies, giant winged-creatures, and villainous corporate executives talking menacingly in board rooms at the Umbrella Corporation headquarters. It’s exactly what you would expect from director Paul W.S. Anderson‘s latest contribution to the franchise.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter trailer

Earlier today we saw a trailer for the next addition to Screen Gems’ Underworld series. The studio has now released a trailer for another entry in their Resident Evil franchise. The 14-year-old series may finally come to a close with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, but we’ll have to wait and see if it has a real ending, not some winky setup for another installment. The previous Resident Evil film ended with a tease of a battle at the White House, but that’s not the story of Resident Evil: The Final ChapterPaul W.S. Anderson‘s film begins there, but we won’t see much of Alice (Milla Jovovich) in the nation’s capital.

Below, watch the Resident Evil: The Final Chapter trailer.

resident evil the final chapter trailer

I didn’t always have a soft spot for the Resident Evil movies, but I developed one over time, especially as it became clear that this trashy, silly, and hilariously convoluted series was just going to keep going and going and going. Even when they’re at their least comprehensible, these films have been a strong showcase for Milla Jovovich as an action hero and watching her find new and bloody ways to combat armies of monsters, mutants, and zombies has, more often than not, been worth the price of admission.

Now, the series looks to be coming to an end with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and the first trailer has arrived. And yet, let’s not take that subtitle too literally yet – you’d need a few hands to count the number of franchises that continued beyond the entry that contained “final” in the title.

Resident Evil The Final Chapter cast

Principal photography on Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is now underway in South Africa, and as we confirmed previously by way of returning cast member Ali Larter, this will be the final installment of the ongoing Resident Evil film franchise (though that doesn’t preclude a reboot from happening years from now).

And with shooting commencing across the globe, Screen Gems has announced the full cast for the film that will again be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, who also wrote the screenplay for the video game sequel. We already know Milla Jovovich is back in the lead role as Alice (and we’ve seen a photo of her getting to work on set), but there’s a few other returning cast members too. Read More »

Resident Evil 6

How many Resident Evil movies are they going to make and who still watches these “films”? I ask myself this question whenever a new Resident Evil movie is announced. And while Resident Evil 6 is tentatively titled Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, that isn’t a binding contract. (Remember in 2009, when the The Final Destination was marketed as the last film in that franchise?). But returning Resident Evil franchise star Ali Larter (who will play Claire Redfield for the third time) promises this film will actually mark the end of the franchise.
