Fans of comics, toys, TV, movies and video games have come to consider San Diego Comic-Con almost like Christmas. We wait patiently all year, and then four days in July pack in months worth of awesome. However, while we’ve come expect that level of crazy for the traditional pop culture stuff, the last few years have done the same for the poster world too. That’s in large part because Mondo has chosen to release dozens of exclusive posters at the event as well as provide some incredible opportunities to fans. This year seems like it will trump them all.
Artists Drew Struzan, Martin Ansin and Olly Moss will all be at the convention signing brand new posters of theirs for The Dark Tower, Conan the Barbarian and Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle, respectively. Plus, each is being sold as a pre-order THIS WEEK to avoid crazy lines. Mondo is also releasing four new Pacific Rim posters, and that’s just the start.
Below, read all the details on the releases and check out our exclusive reveal of the Moss’ Howl’s Moving Castle. Read More »
Most of Mondo’s poster releases are designed as strict limited edition runs. Last year, however, the company did a print for The Dark Knight Rises which was slightly less limited. The poster was made available through a “timed release,” where enough prints will be made to cover orders that come in during a specific time frame.
Mondo’s second timed release is going to be a Man of Steel print by Martin Ansin, which will be available for 72 hours beginning this Thursday night at midnight. (IE, in the first minute of Friday morning, CST.) There will be more severely limited versions of the Ansin print, and also one by Ken Taylor, seen above. All details are below. Read More »
Mondo has already done posters for Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, so it was inevitable we’d soon find out what they had in store for Iron Man 3. The answer consists of three posters by two different artists, Martin Ansin and Phantom City Creative. They’ll go on sale Friday and you can see them in full below. Read More »
This is a huge time for Mondo. The company kicked off SXSW last week with their massive Game of Thrones show. Later this week is the even bigger Stout/Taylor show. (Check back Friday for more on that.) And today they’ve revealed a truly historic entry into their archive.
Martin Ansin has done a poster for Martin Scorsese‘s Taxi Driver, tied to a screening at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX next week. Not only did Robert De Niro allow Mondo to use his likeness, Scorsese himself approved the poster. Check it out in full, below. Read More »
Over the weekend, Mondo opened their fourth gallery show in Austin, Texas and it was without a doubt their biggest yet. The theme was Universal Monsters and it featured not only brand new work by the legendary Drew Struzan, but all new screenprints and art from the likes of Martin Ansin, Kevin Tong, Scott Campbell, Mike Mitchell, JC Richard and others.
We posted a few of the earlier images at this link but, after the jump, check out our favorites from the rest including stunning posters for Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Bride of Frankenstein and many more. Read More »
Rian Johnson‘s third film Looper came in as my most anticipated movie of 2012. While so many other films from that list have fallen short in my estimation, I can say that Looper is an excellent film, surprising and thrilling, and a great example of science fiction. This is not a Looper review; that will come shortly.
But the artist Martin Ansin, who has done some great posters for Mondo, is kicking off the Fantastic Fest poster series with a new poster for Looper, created to celebrate the film’s place on the Fantastic Fest schedule. Along with that we’ve got The Psychology of Dream Analysis, which is a short that Johnson co-wrote and directed a decade ago, during the period when Looper first began to gestate as the idea for a short film. Check out both items below. Read More »
