One of the more interesting panels that happened at Comic Con during the week wasn’t covered much by the geek blogs as it didn’t present any news or footage — Entertainment Weekly’s Visionaries panel with filmmakers Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim, Shaun of the Dead), Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men, Gravity) and Marc Webb (Amazing Spider-Man, 500 Days of Summer). During the discussion, an audience member asked about the comments made recently by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas about what they believe to be an upcoming implosion of the film industry due to overblown budgets.

Unless you were lucky enough to attend Comic-Con this past weekend, you’ve still got a ways to wait for the first glimpse at some real footage from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But until that comes, we have nine high-res pics to offer a closer look at the comic book sequel.
Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) features prominently in them, of course, along with Electro (Jamie Foxx), Rhino (Paul Giamatti), Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and more. Still no pics of Felicia Hardy or whomever Sarah Gadon is playing, but maybe those’ll come in the next set. Hit the jump to check ‘em out.

When The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014, it will be the fifth straight Spider-Man movie set in New York. Knowing that, a fan at San Diego Comic-Con asked star Andrew Garfield what other famous Spider-Man comic book stories he’d like to see on screen. Garfield said, “I’d like to see him with The Avengers…but I’m not supposed to say that.” The crowd went wild.
It was just one of the many awesome things discussed during the panel. Director Marc Webb explained how the first film was meant to set up multiple movies and that Rhino (Paul Giamatti) is mostly in this one to establish a fun tone. Dane DeHaan talked about Harry Osborn’s complicated relationships with Peter Parker and Norman Osborn while Jamie Foxx spoke about Electro’s costume and origin. Oh – and they screened about 3 minutes of never before seen footage. Read about the footage here, and hit the jump for everything else. Read More »

We’ve followed the casting notes, perused the set photos, and soaked in the rumors. Today, we finally got to see some footage. We can’t show it to you yet, but we can go into details about what it contained.
During today’s Comic-Con panel at Hall H, Sony showed off a reel — essentially a trailer — from Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The video was a rough one, with incomplete effects and a couple of storyboards, but it was enough to offer us a good sense of the movie. And what we saw was pretty fantastic. Hit the jump for the full description.

Briefly: I keep thinking that Comic Con will see the announcement of a subtitle for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, or a title change of some sort. But with the new banner image seen above and accompanying title logo treatment, that seems to be off the table. The title of Marc Webb‘s sequel will really be The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We know most of the other big details, and you can look back at the last few official photo releases to see other pics of Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giamatti as the Rhino. Yesterday we saw the first official shot of Jamie Foxx in the fully villainous incarnation of Electro in Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. That came courtesy of the cover of the new issue of EW, and now more images from the mag have hit the internet. One in particular gives us another look at Foxx’s bad guy, while some others focus on Spidey himself.
We’ll likely get a better official look at the Rhino, played by Paul Giamatti, at Comic Con next week. For now, check out the new pics below, and wonder if the Rhino and Electro are united in evil by their hands-free headsets. Read More »
We’ll almost certainly see a teaser trailer for Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 next week at Comic Con, but for now here’s the first official shot of Jamie Foxx as the villain Electro. We’ve seen Foxx’s non-electrified look in an official pic, and set pics showed us an early look at what you see above and below. But this image gives you Electro complete with post-production effects. He’s facing off against Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) on the cover of the new EW, and you can see the full image below. Cool Posts From Around the Web:
And so it begins. The schedule for Wednesday night and Thursday at San Diego Comic Con 2013 has been revealed kicking off four days of scheduling madness. There are several early highlights on what’s traditionally the second slowest day of the Con, but one standout is a Hall H conversation between Alfonso Cuaron, Marc Webb and Edgar Wright. Webb and Wright’s movies (The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and The World’s End) are already confirmed for the convention, but this all but solidifies Gravity will be there too.
On the movie side of things there’s also Europa Report, Ender’s Game, Divergent and Terry Gilliam’s Zero Theorum. On the TV side, there’s Dexter, The X-Files and Sherlock. And that’s only a small sampling. Below, check out the full schedule as well as some highlights. Read More »
