As excited I am for Gary Ross‘ The Hunger Games, even I have to admit that some of the earlier news bits and marketing materials to trickle out were less than thrilling. Remember the time they spread out the very minor tribute casting announcements over weeks and weeks? Or those one-second clips they put out in advance of the teaser?
But thankfully, as the production has begun picking up speed, Lionsgate has been offering up better, more interesting stuff, like this new crop of gloriously high-res stills and set photos. Though not all of them are totally new — I believe we’ve already seen some of these images before, and we’ve definitely glimpsed several of these scenes in the trailer — I’m still happy to have some crystal-clear images of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Cinna (Lenny Kravitz), Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Rue (Amandla Stenberg), and others to feast my eyes on. Check out the gallery after the jump.

Here’s the first full trailer for the Gary Ross-directed adaptation of The Hunger Games, the first novel in Suzanne Collins‘ darkly futuristic trilogy of novels about teenagers chosen by lottery to fight to the death as representatives of their local district. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth are the young leads in the Lionsgate film that could be the studio’s answer to Twilight, but hopefully with a harder edge.

Given Lionsgate’s tendency to trickle out The Hunger Games info one tiny bit at a time, you could be forgiven for rolling your eyes at yet another round of news on Gary Ross‘ dystopian teen epic. But happily, today’s offering is one of the most interesting things we’ve seen come out of the marketing team in a while.
The studio has just released eight brand-new character posters for the film, offering close-up profiles of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Haymitch (Woody Harrelson), Effie (Elizabeth Banks), Cinna (Lenny Kravitz), Rue (Amandla Stenberg), and Cato (Alexander Ludwig). And trust me, they’re way more exciting than those district seals that were released earlier this month. Check ’em out after the jump.

As Nikki Finke so famously coined, “Toldja!” After the rumors of musician turned actor Lenny Kravitz being up for a role in The Hunger Games began to circle, I continually said that he’d be perfect for the pivotal role of Cinna, the rebellious stylist for heroine Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). And, what do you know? That’s the role he’s just been cast in.
UPDATE: Toby Jones has also just been cast in Gary Ross‘ The Hunger Games. More after the jump.

Though they didn’t rank on our list of top ten roles yet to be cast in The Hunger Games, Lionsgate has announced two more child competitors to battle to the death in the upcoming Gary Ross directed film. Chris Mark and Jackie Emerson will play the District 5 Tributes. Fans know the female District 5 tribute, nicknamed “Foxface,” becomes a significant and worthy foe for Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson).
And while we’re on the topic of Hunger Games, Vulture is reporting that offers went out to Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci and Lenny Kravitz to appear in the film. What roles are they for? And wasn’t Vulture already wrong about John C. Reilly as Haymitch? Read more after the jump. Read More »
The cast for Lee Daniels‘ next film, Selma, is really starting to shape up. A while back there was rumor that Robert De Niro would be on board as Alabama governor George Wallace, and that news was confirmed by Movieline. Daniels now also has Hugh Jackman in the cast (announced last week) and, seemingly, Lenny Kravitz, who did good work in Precious. Read More »
