Kong Skull Island Review

There have been plenty of iterations of King Kong over the years, from his debut in the classic RKO picture in 1933 that would influence generations of filmmakers to Peter Jackson’s romantic epic in 2005. But I can guarantee that you’ve never seen a King Kong as badass, stylish and just plain cool as director Jordan Vogt-Roberts delivers in Kong: Skull Island.

It’s been a long time since there’s been a monster movie as bold, daring and gruesome as Kong: Skull Island, and that’s what makes it a refreshing action adventure that is chock full of mesmerizing visuals, startling action and some of the most amazingly repulsive monsters the big screen has seen in awhile.

Kong Skull Island Connects to Godzilla

It seems crazy to think that Kong: Skull Island will be in theaters in just a little over a month. There doesn’t seem to be enough buzz about the movie just yet, but that will likely change as the release date gets closer. There’s a chance there could even be a Super Bowl spot to help spread the word.

In the meantime, a new Kong: Skull Island IMAX poster has been released that takes an obvious cue from Apocalypse Now, just like the first trailer for the King Kong reboot did. Plus, we finally have confirmation on how Kong Skull Island connects to Godzilla, the reboot of the King of Monsters from 2014. Read More »

kong: skull island tv spot

In less than two months, a new King Kong movie with Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, John C. Reilly, Brie Larson, Shea Whigham, Tom Hiddleston, and Jason Mitchell comes out. Let’s hope the movie is as good as that sounds, and that it’s as good as it looks because Jordan Vogt-Roberts‘ follow-up to The Kings of Summer looks like one big, intense popcorn movie. Did I mention Vogt-Robers film also stars John Ortiz (Togetherness)? He hasn’t been featured prominently in the marketing materials, like the Kong: Skull Island TV spots below, but he’s in it, which is another valid reason to want to see Samuel L. Jackson and a band of soldiers take on some giant monsters.

Below, watch the new Kong: Skull Island TV spot.

Mudbound review

Any movie should consider itself lucky to have an ensemble as good as the one anchoring Mudbound, which includes Jason Mitchell, Garrett Hedlund, and, most unexpectedly, Mary J. Blige. Directed by Dee Rees (whose debut feature Pariah was a breakout favorite at Sundance 2011), the drama follows two families — one black, one white — living on the same farm in the Mississippi Delta around the time of World War II.

The white McAllans own the property, despite the fact that household head Henry (Jason Clarke) is a Memphis gentleman who knows little about the land, and seemingly moved his family to the country on a whim. The Jacksons, on the other hand, have worked these acres for generations, for one white owner after another. Both clans are forever changed when World War II hits, and then again when the war ends and brings their loved ones back home.  Read More »

Kong Skull Island Trailer

A new adventure featuring the classic movie monster King Kong is just a couple months away. Kings of Summer director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is bringing the massive ape to the big screen in his largest form yet in Kong: Skull Island, but he’s not the only monster that a group of explorers have to contend with.

Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John Goodman, Samuel L. Jackson, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell and more all encounter an endless array of giant creatures, from creepy spiders to gargantuan lizards and much more. Now a new Kong Skull Island trailer makes it hard to tell whether King Kong or these other monsters will be a larger threat to our human protagonists.

Kong Skull Island Trailer

Following a revival of Godzilla back in 2014, another one of most menacing monsters of the movies is returning to theaters. Kong: Skull Island brings back the King of the Apes known as King Kong. And while we know that this new take on Kong will have ties to the same world that the new Godzilla exists in, eventually leading to a head-to-head battle between the two monsters in 2020, first we must have a proper introduction to the giant ape.

Kong Skull Island Photo

Ever since the first teaser trailer for Kong: Skull Island debuted at San Diego Comic-Con this past summer, the buzz about the action adventure reboot of the classic 1933 movie monster has been fairly non-existent. There was a little peak of excitement when a poster popped up at New York Comic-Con with some ties to the 2014 reboot of Godzilla, but then things quieted down again. However, we’re going to hear Kong roar again soon enough.

A new trailer for Kong: Skull Island was recently classified, and it should be arriving next week with the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (both are Warner Bros. movies). But in the meantime, a new photo from the movie finally gives us our first good look at the new King Kong.
