Rosmund Pike Will Help Tom Cruise Solve The Mystery Of 'One Shot'

Briefly: Last week we got wind of a small group of actresses who were under consideration to play the lead female role opposite Tom Cruise in Christopher McQuarrie's adaptation of the Lee Child novel One Shot. On the list was Rosamund Pike (An Education, Clash of the Titans 2) who is now in talks to play defense attorney Helen Rodin, who is drawn into the case of a man accused of five sniper shooting deaths in a midwestern downtown plaza.

I like this choice just fine. While the idea of seeing Brit Marling in the role was appealing — something that briefly seemed possible — I think Rosamund Pike is great, and not at all the obvious choice. Helen Rodin isn't just an eye-candy sort of romantic companion for the Jack Reacher character in the story, and I'm hopeful that McQuarrie's script has retained the strength of her personality.
