Daredevil, the first of five Marvel Netflix series, has arrived to stream, and many of you have probably already devoured the entire series. There’s even a second-series order in place, and dreams on the part of star Charlie Cox of appearing in one of the big-screen Marvel adventures.
But if Avengers mastermind Joss Whedon had his way, we would have seen a new Daredevil movie go straight to the theater. He pushed for a film rather than a TV series, and in a way, it’s all about Batman. Because it’s always about Batman.
IGN talked to Whedon, who said,
I fought for Daredevil to be a film instead of a TV show… If the show’s working, the show’s working. Comic books are serialized entertainment and a lot of them lend themselves to TV shows as much or more than they do to movies.
I like him because he’s basically Marvel’s Batman, thanks to Frank Miller basically. So for me I didn’t think they’d be able to sustain that sort of mood on TV but TV has changed so much. It’s come up so much that I think it might just be the right place.
Funny that one of the people whose work helped bring American TV to the point it’s at now would initially be thinking of a character like Daredevil as a better fit for the big screen. In the end, I think Daredevil is great for television, even if I have issues with this first season. There’s every reason to hope that the second season will iron out some of the things that didn’t always go well in the first thirteen hours.Cool Posts From Around the Web:
