Movie Trailer #2: 'Skyline'

We got our first look at Skyline at Comic Con, along with a great deal of exposure to the PR line that the movie is a homemade affair. Directors Greg and Colin Strause did pay for the movie themselves and shoot a great deal of it in their own condo in Los Angeles, but they also happen to own an effects company that does digital work for big-budget movies. That company, Hydraulx, did the effects for Skyline, so it's not quite like this was assembled with a PC from Best Buy and a copy of Adobe After Effects.

Still, Skyline looks like an entertainingly flashy alien invasion thriller, with some big setpieces. Now there's a second trailer, which can be seen after the break.

Things kick off in this trailer with some images that will be familiar to those who saw the Comic Con presentation, and some of this material is in the first trailer, too. But there's also a much greater sense of the scope of the film and detail that we'll see in the alien tech.

And the car stomp? Yeah, nice stuff. There's more, too.

My hope is that the scope we're being promised here actually is characteristic of the film, and that Skyline won't mostly take place in a condo, with a handful of big exterior shots to give it production value.

Apple has the full trailer in HD. Skyline stars Donald Faison, Eric Balfour, David Zayas, Scottie Thompson and Brittany Daniel and opens on November 12.

In the sci-fi thriller Skyline, strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth.
